So who are the Nomad Souls and what are they about? Well like all good stories we should start from the beginning. Us two have been friends now for over almost a decade. We met in a European school in Belgium where we swam in a sea of nationalities and cultures. This definitely sparked an interest in enjoying the fulfillment of learning where people are from and made living in an international environment a normality for us. After we graduated we split ways, Gerald went to go study Computer Science in England and Glenn stayed in Belgium to get a master´s degree in Physiotherapy.

Schooling in an international school environment absolutely made an impact on us which influenced us to be more open minded towards other cultures, other languages and other ways of thinking. So in turn this mindset blossomed into a lust of travel which kept on growing as the year when on. To sate our thirst for travel we both started to explore the world whenever we could. Gerald did his first road trip on the East coast of America and absolutely enjoyed every minute of it. Glenn went backpacking in Guatemala and Belize for instance, where he explored a whole different world cultural wise. Of course we kept on traveling always looking for the next best adventure.

As we continued to travel more and more we would share our adventures with one another and would always brainstorm for a ‘long backpacking trip’ to do together. Something that seemed to always be just around the corner in the not too distant future but yet still fleeting as a distant dream. Of course as a traveler you always meet other ‘long-term travelers’ who will tell you stories of how unbelievable and exciting their life has been while traveling which definitely infuses a sort of longing and wanderlust in you. So this kind of thing kept happening until one day after a very dark and dreary winter we finally said “to hell with normal life” and decided to go ‘all in’ for a full year of backpacking the world. And so started the months and months of planning and budgeting to mold that idea into a reality.

That’s the thing with travel it seems the more you do it, the more ideas you get for other adventures in unknown parts (to you) in the world. There are so many factors to why we travel it would take far to long to list them all. Perhaps part of it is the freedom of being able to do whatever whenever you want in such exotic settings. Perhaps it’s to explore who you are in these different environments and to learn about yourself from those special travel experiences that you cherish for years to come.

Thus, with this travel blog, we would like to not only write down our thoughts of how to travel to some parts of the world and provide travel tips but also our philosophy of travel. To outline, share and discuss the reasons why people travel and explore the psychology of the traveling backpacker. So we hope to inform, entertain and inspire you (future) fellow travelers and any help you could offer us along the way we would to be more than grateful to hear it.
